Illustration

Vector points, paintbrush, pen, or pencil - illustration is a skill set I have come to know and love. From icons and infographics to logos and people, illustrations can provide the visual flow and interest to bring a product or design to life.

The Mountaineers Badges

Visual components of the updated Mountaineers' brand included badges, which were awarded for taking courses, learning skills, or becoming a leader. I designed these badges with the new brand colors and they are used to foster engagement with membership.

The Mountaineers Member Benefit illustrations

I illustrated these as a fun way to promote discounts provided by companies that support The Mountaineers and branded products for sale. We shared them on social media, our website, and in our magazine.

Woodland Park Zoo West Entrance signage

I illustrated a series of penguins based on real-life penguins that lived at the zoo and mocked them up with a typeset of Woodland Park Zoo for the West Entrance. They were produced by a local metalwork shop.

Woodland Park Zoo map

I created this by walking around, taking photos of all the buildings, and drawing them in forced perspective in Adobe Illustrator while referring to printed architectural surveys of zoo grounds. The map before this one was what we lovingly referred to as "the blob map"—it had no animal images, building images, or other visual cues to show visitors where they were on zoo grounds.

I took the initiative to create this map after observing how hard it was for zoo visitors to see what part of the zoo they were in. As it was self-assigned, I completed this project between tasks (and after hours), with very popular results. As of 2024, an updated version of this map is still used today.

Woodland Park Zoo original animal illustrations

I illustrated the front and back of these animals by looking at real life and photographed images of these animals, then sketching and conceptualizing what they might look like from the front and back in the same pose. These were placed on the front and back fo the restroom doors at the north entrance of the zoo.

Woodland Park Zoo Complimentary Tickets

I illustrated these complimentary tickets for Woodland Park Zoo in monochrome (except for the family pack) for both the simplicity and beauty, and also for the sake of color-coding. These monochromatic illustrations can be printed in any color to match the current campaign.

Hansa Memorial Sign

When the Woodland Park Zoo lost Hansa at the early age of 6, we wanted something soft and unique to remember her by, so I created this hand-drawn illustration of her playing with her favorite toy - a giant blue ball. The image was created with pencil and paper, then touched up in photoshop with blue added.
